The fact is that no matter what digital camera you shoot with you will still want to get back to the principles of good photography and get good at them. There is really no such thing as specific methods of photography for Canon and a unique set of tricks and techniques for Nikon cameras. It is still the depiction of light is one of the most important concerns.
Digital SLR Photography Techniques
You have a bigger chance to be in charge of the digital camera if it is a DSLR. There are more control and more techniques to get the effect you want. I'm not saying it's horrible to have compact cameras. I am simply saying that you have a better impact on how your pictures turn out. The main reason I use DSLR is because I need more control of my image making. I want to be able to change the focal length of my and various types of lenses on the camera if I want. I also need the opportunity for high speed photography if they wish.
I also want a very fast shutter speed at times. A very fast shutter speed occurs when you use a fast lens. This will mean that the maximum aperture of the lens is fairly wide. A lot of light to enter the lens and you have more light to work with. You can get a fast shutter speed in this way.
DSLR cameras have more control as a high ISO, many images per second, the ability to lenses, functionality have an external flash and much more. You will still be able to get a beautiful shot with a compact camera, but soon you will start to feel limited in what you can do.
To really have the kind of photography that is ideal to be taught by a person who has experienced it. This awareness can save you years of errors and disappointments. Learn to master light, where you put things in the film, a digital camera and you'll have the structure to be an amazing photographer.
